Plush fabric buyer guide
How to Specify Plush Fabric for Soft Toy Production
Direct answer
What the buyer needs to know
A usable plush-fabric brief should identify the intended toy application, physical reference, pile height, width, area or linear weight, composition, construction, colour target and required quantity. Keep measured specification, visual preference and commercial terms separate, then approve colour and hand feel against a physical sample before bulk supply.
- Define the application and reference material before choosing by name alone.
- Record pile, width and weight as separate measurable fields.
- Treat Pantone and screen images as direction; approve colour physically.
- Include quantity, target market, trade term and certification requirements in the enquiry.
Start with the application, not only the fabric name
Names such as Velboa, super soft plush and faux fur are useful starting points, but they do not complete a purchasing specification. The same family can contain different pile heights, weights, widths and surface effects.
State where the fabric will be used on the toy, the intended surface appearance and whether an existing material must be matched. A physical swatch or finished-product reference reduces ambiguity more effectively than adjectives alone.
- Finished product or component where the fabric will be used
- Target surface: compact, smooth, fuller or long-pile
- Reference swatch, finished sample, technical drawing or clear image
- Target market and any testing or certification requirement
Write the material brief as measurable fields
A comparison becomes more reliable when each value has its own field. Avoid treating pile height, GSM and hand feel as interchangeable: they describe different parts of the material decision.
| Field | What to provide | Why it belongs in the brief |
|---|---|---|
| Pile height | Target in millimetres or an approved reference | Defines the visible fibre length reference |
| Width | Usable width in centimetres | Affects marker planning and quantity review |
| Weight | GSM, g/m or supplier reference unit | Prevents unlike constructions being compared as equal |
| Composition | Confirmed fibre content where required | Supports material and market review |
| Construction | Knitted structure or confirmed construction | Separates appearance from material build |
| Colour | Pantone reference, shade-card ID or physical swatch | Creates a traceable colour target |
| Quantity | Rolls or another confirmed commercial unit | Allows MOQ and supply-route review |
Evidence note If a value is unknown, mark it as “to be confirmed” rather than copying a value from a visually similar fabric.
Separate digital review from physical approval
Screen colour, lighting and camera processing can change how a plush surface appears. A digital colour record can help identify a shade or construction, but the commercial approval point should remain a physical sample or shade card.
Record what has been approved: specification, colour reference, hand feel and any agreed change. This creates a clearer reference for quotation and subsequent supply communication.
Send enough commercial context for a useful quotation
A product name and colour are not enough to prepare a practical B2B review. Include order scale, intended application, preferred trade term, destination port or forwarding arrangement and any market-specific test requirement.
For Bingyu enquiries, full-roll purchasing is the commercial route. Ready-stock MOQ and dispatch timing are confirmed in the written quotation; made-to-order development uses a 10-roll MOQ for the confirmed construction and colour.
- Company and buyer type
- Fabric family and target specification
- Application and estimated order quantity
- Ready stock or made-to-order preference
- Trade term, forwarder status and destination port
- Certification or testing requirements for the target market

Turn the decision into a quotation brief.
Send the chosen construction, colour direction, intended application and estimated full-roll quantity. Unconfirmed fields will be identified in the written quotation.
